Miscarriage is always such a painful and traumatic event and women and couples can be left feeling utterly hopeless. Most of the women I see in my clinic have miscarried once or multiple times so I understand the emotional difficulties one can face. We will always be sensitive to your needs and so please don't feel that you are alone. Acupuncture can be hugely effective in helping to move through feelings of grief and loss, all the while nurturing your uterus for the loss it has seen and bringing your body back to your better self.
The 2017/18 clinical audit using two years of data from the Verity Allen Acupuncture clinic showed a 78% live birth rate for women who had miscarried in the past.
I always advise my pregnant patients to continue with their acupuncture treatment throughout pregnancy as it will help to ensure they have a healthy and easy pregnancy and should prevent miscarriage. However It is important to state that if there is a defect with the foetus itself then unfortunately acupuncture will not be able to save the baby, as miscarriage can be a natural process. However if you are habitually miscarrying then there is clearly a problem.
Acupuncture is used to help bring the mother's body back to optimum health so that the foetus has the best possible chance to develop and grow, enabling the mother to carry the baby to full term.
Sperm health
I think it's very important for women to remember that it takes two to create and carry a baby to full term. It is the sperm's job to instruct the uterus on making a placenta and so often, if a woman is miscarrying in the early stages (around 7 weeks when the placenta is being formed), it can be an issue with the sperm. Visit my page on male infertility to find out how acupuncture can be used to improve sperm health.
Sperm health has seen a rapid and radical decline over the last 40 years, plummeting by 50% for motility, morphology and count. To read more on this subject please head over to the blog section.
